Scheduled Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (may occasionally require flexibility)
Scheduled Days Sundays through Thursdays (required)
Computer System: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Shelter Buddy (training available)
Pay Rate: $18.50/hour

Position Summary
The Humane Society of the North Bay is a non-profit animal shelter that cares for Vallejo’s lost and abandoned cats and dogs. We are a busy shelter, and may have up to 40 large dogs, 20 small dogs and 20+ cats at maximum capacity.
We are looking for a supervisor who has compassion for both animals and humans, a strong work ethic, and meticulous attention to details, who will supervise the kennel staff during daily operations and ensure the work is completed in a competent, consistent, and professional manner. The candidate must be able to professionally and politely interact with people and animals under demanding situations and fast-changing priorities that can occur throughout the day, every day.
Although the primary requirements of this role are administrative management, the supervisor will necessarily interact with and handle animals that they initially are not familiar with. Training will be provided.
Essential Duties:
• Manage kennel staff through daily operation procedures that ensure training, competency, and consistency in animal care, such as feeding, cleaning, handling, exercise and socialization, basic vaccinations and microchipping (training provided), and recordkeeping for information about each animal
• Ensure staff is punctual and taking scheduled breaks
• Prepare weekly staff schedules and monitor overtime
• Accurately enter information into the data management program (training provided) with prompt and continuous updates, as needed
• Assist social media team in writing pet profiles and taking photos
• Schedule and manage spay/neuter appointments
• Work with medical staff to schedule and arrange transport to and from medical appointments and finding emergency fosters
• Work with Shelter Director to screen job applicants, and recommend disciplinary actions and performance appraisals of staff

• Experience and high comfort level with handling dogs and cats
• Willingness to handle and interact with stray dogs and cats (training provided)
Preferred but not required:
• Prior animal shelter experience
• Professional experience in safely handling stray dogs and cats
• Experience in safely handling animals who may be scared, ill or injured
• Familiar with animal diseases, disease symptoms, and medications
Physical demands include:
• Movement, including but not limited to standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching overhead and laterally, grasping equipment such as leashes, handles and fitting gear on dogs
• Lifting up to 40 pounds without assistance
• Occasionally transferring heavier loads or animals (with assistance)
• Sitting for long periods of time for computer work
• Grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports and data entry, using a computer keyboard
• Good visual ability including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Hearing is required when interacting with staff, visitors, volunteers, and animals
Working conditions include:
• Exposure to and potential contact with frightened, agitated or injured animals who may attempt to bite or scratch
• Exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, such as cleaning agents, and veterinary drugs
• Exposure to animal feces, urine, vomit and blood
• Exposure to excessive noise associated with stressed or reactive dogs and cats
• Exposure to various odors from feces, urine, medications and cleaning chemicals
• The potential for witnessing the results of abuse and neglect experienced by an animal prior to arriving at the shelter
• Interacting with members of the public who are upset, frightened and/or angry regarding a lost or found pet, an adoption outcome, a request to surrender, or return-to-owner process
• Understanding the need to send animals to a licensed veterinarian for humane euthanasia (although every effort is made to adopt out the animals we take into our care, some animals may be humanely euthanized for terminal disease, quality of life, or behavior that is dangerous for adoption into the community)
