Scheduled Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (may occasionally require flexibility)
Scheduled Days: Onsite, Saturdays and Sundays (required); Offsite, 3 days TBD
Computer System: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Shelter Buddy (training provided)
Pay Rate: $17.00/hour
Position Summary
The Humane Society of the North Bay is an independent non-profit animal shelter that cares for Vallejo’s lost and abandoned cats and dogs.
We are looking for a candidate to support our work who has compassion for both animals and humans, a strong work ethic, and meticulous attention to details and data management.
Essential Duties
Offsite: The Outreach role will assist our lead Adoption, Foster, and Rescue coordinator with screening adoption applications, scheduling meet-and greets, conducting post-adoption follow up, and maintaining records; keeping in regular contact with fosters for adoption meetings, vaccination updates, supplying photos for social media; attending offsite adoption events; assisting with rescue outreach; continually updating data records; and other requests for assistance as needed.
This work can be done remotely during business hours three days, Mondays through Fridays (actual days to be discussed during the hiring process), but the coordinator will occasionally be contacted after hours to help over the phone with placements during emergency situations.
Onsite: The Volunteer role will involve screening applications, scheduling and conducting orientations and training, accurately maintaining and frequently updating volunteer data, and compiling a monthly report of volunteer activities. This role requires onsite presence at the shelter Saturdays and Sundays, no exceptions.
Both roles will involve animal handling (training provided).
The candidate must be able to professionally and politely interact with people and animals under demanding situations and fast-changing priorities that can occur throughout the course of the day.

• Valid CA Driver’s License and good driving record
• Experience and high comfort level with dogs and cats
• Willingness to handle and interact with unfamiliar dogs and cats (training provided)
Preferred but not required:
• Prior animal shelter experience
• Experience in safely handling dogs and cats
• Experience in safely handling animals who may be scared, ill or injured
• Microsoft Word: 1 year
Physical demands include:
• Sitting for long periods of time for computer work
• Grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports and data entry, using a computer keyboard • Compliance at all times with animal shelter procedures, policies, and rules
• Good visual ability including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Hearing is required when interacting with staff, visitors, volunteers, and animals over the phone or in person
• Movement, including but not limited to standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching overhead and laterally, grasping equipment such as leashes, handles and fitting gear on dogs
• Lifting up to 40 pounds without assistance by another person
• Occasionally transferring heavier loads or animals (with assistance)
Onsite working conditions include:
• Exposure to and potential contact with frightened, agitated or injured animals who may attempt to bite or scratch
• Exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, such as cleaning agents, and veterinary drugs
• Exposure to animal feces, urine, vomit and blood
• Exposure to excessive noise associated with stressed or reactive dogs and cats
• Exposure to various odors from feces, urine, medications and cleaning chemicals
• The potential for witnessing the results of abuse and neglect experienced by an animal prior to arriving at the shelter
• Understanding the need to send animals to a licensed veterinarian for humane euthanasia (although every effort is made to adopt out the animals we take into our care, some animals may be humanely euthanized for terminal disease, quality of life, or behavior that is dangerous for adoption into the community)
