Katie Kogut
Katherine (Katie) Kogut is a longtime public health professional and advocate for both children and animals. Originally from Connecticut, she fostered her first litter of shelter kittens at age nine, sparking a lifelong commitment to animal welfare and community care. Katie earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College, her Master’s Degree in Public Health from UC Berkeley, and has worked on a UC Berkeley research study since 2002, where she now serves as Study Coordinator. In addition to her research work, Katie has been deeply engaged in child welfare, volunteering in orphanages abroad and fostering children in the United States. She joined HSNB as a volunteer dog walker in 2023 and began fostering puppies and kittens in 2025. A believer in the power of fostering, spay/neuter, and keeping families and pets together, Katie joined the HSNB Board of Directors in 2026, bringing her project coordination and grant writing skills to support the shelter’s lifesaving mission. Katie lives in the Bay Area with her wife, two teen/tween sons, three black cats (including one HSNB alum), one great big resident dog, a rotating cast of foster pups, and two dwarf frogs. She enjoys reading, travel, puzzles, games, and watching her son play soccer.
